Bhayandar groom spends Rs 1 lakh so that villagers can see chopper from close range

While many in the city are thinking about switching over to trains and buses to beat the petrol price hike, a farmer in Bhayandar did something that would make some of the most flamboyant celebs turn green with envy.

Kirtivat Bhanudas Bhoir, 29, created a stir in Badlapur when he landed at his wedding venue in a helicopter on Sunday afternoon. He spent Rs 1 lakh for the 20-minute ride, but later shrugged his shoulders and said he was not trying to impress his bride.

Mr. Bhanudas Bhoir, whose father is one of the biggest landlords in Murdha village, Bhayandar (West), hired the copter because his friends in the village had not seen one from close range.

It helped me reach the (wedding) venue in just 20 minutes, and my friends got to see a chopper right under their nose,” Bhoir said.

He said his wife Tejashri is his childhood friend, and he doesn’t need to do anything to impress her. “My wife likes my simple nature,” he smiled. When pointed out that flying to one’s wedding doesn’t really suggest too much simplicity, Bhoir laughed, “I wanted to make my wedding a memorable event for the people in my village.

The baraatis were at the venue when I landed, and the joy on their face cannot be described in words.”

One of Bhoir’s friends said, “We know him as a man of his word. He told us that he will get a helicopter for his wedding. It just added to the grandeur of his marriage.”

A few weeks ago, Bhoir called up Deccan Aviation officials and booked the chopper. And on Sunday, his villagers, and in-laws, who had gathered at a school ground in Badlapur were treated to the sight of a blue and white helicopter landing there.

And to just add to the spectacle, a banner stuck on the helicopter proudly proclaimed: Kirtivat weds Tejashri.
